Day 1. Lima

You are welcomed by our staff at the airport and transferred to your hotel. During the ride we will tell you about Lima and Peru and go through your itinerary day by day. We will also answer any question you may have.

   

Day 2. Lima (B, L, D)

After breakfast, a guided tour of colonial and modern Lima which includes the cathedral built in 1654 where the remains of Francisco Pizarro rest, the Main Square with a bronze fountain from 1650 and some unique tree balconies, the San Fransisco monastery with the famous catacombs and the modern areas of Miraflores and San Isidro.
Lunch at the internationally renowned Rosa Nautica, famous for its exquisite seafood. After lunch you will visit the Gold Museum, a unique private collection of amazing gold artifacts from the Inca Empire and other ancient Peruvian cultures. Return to your hotel.

In the evening you will have a delicious dinner at the Huaca Pucllana Restaurant, located within an actual pre-Inca archaeological site and next to a 1500 year old adobe pyramid

   

Day 3.  Lima - Cuzco (B, L, D)

You are picked up at your hotel and then we go to a typical market where we will explain to you the variety of products that are used in the Peruvian cuisine; vegetables, fish and shellfish, meats, fruits, etc.

Then we go to the Restaurante Caplina where the owner and chef of the restaurant will receive us and prepare the popular dish Ceviche and the drink Pisco Sour. He will explain every step and afterwards you will of course get to try it. You will also try some different typical Peruvian snacks. Return to your hotel. In the evening, dinner at the restaurant Brujas de Cachiche that serves exquisite Peruvian food.

      

Day 4. Lima-Arequipa (B, L, D)

Transfer to the airport for the flight to Arequipa, the most beautiful city in Peru. Pick up and transfer to your hotel. Rest and relax in the morning to get used to the altitude. For lunch you will go to the great restaurant Sol de Mayo which offers great Peruvian food in a nice setting.   

       

In the afternoon a city tour of Arequipa where you will visit the Chilina valley and the old San Lorenzo district. You will get a nice view of the city and you will visit the Main Square and the Cathedral as well as the extraordinary Santa Catalina Monastery that are built of volcanic lava and is dated back to the 16th century. You will end the day with a visit to Juanita, the best preserved mummy in the whole America, which was found in 1995 during an expedition high up in the mountains. In the evening dinner at the great restaurant Zig Zag, famous for its stone-grilled meats.

       

Day 5. Arequipa – Colca Canyon (B, L, D)

After breakfast you are picked up at the hotel for your two day Colca Canyon tour. You will pass the hot springs in Yura and then ascend to the Pampa de Cañahuas National Reserve where you will see groups of Llamas and Alpacas. After a few more hours the descent to the Colca Valley begins and you arrive to your hotel, the newly opened Las Casitas Del Colca, the new luxury lodge by the Orient Express chain and set in the Colca Valley itself.
After check in to your “casita” (private lodge), a delicious lunch utilizing the fresh organic products from the garden is served. In the afternoon, you will start the cooking lessons focusing on local regional cuisine. Dinner at the lodge.
To make your stay of the utmost comfort, your casita comes complete with a private terrace from where you can appreciate the wonderful landscape, a heated plunge pool and an outdoor shower. You may also relax in the hotel swimming pool or enjoy spa treatments at the Samay Spa (the Spa is not included in the price though).

   

Day 6. Colca Canyon – Puno (B, L, D)   

Early in the morning we go further into the Valley towards the deepest part of the Canyon called Cruz del Condor. The scenery from this point is spectacular and hopefully you will see the great condor flying by just above your heads. The condors are most likely to be seen April-October but they are also seen during other periods of the year. After a short walk along the Canyon it is time to go back to Chivay where you will have lunch and then take the bus to Puno (6 hours). You are picked up at the bus station and transferred to your hotel. Dinner at a nice restaurant. 

   

Day 7. Lake Titicaca (B, L, D)

After breakfast you are picked up for your guided tour of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. On the first stop you will visit the floating reed islands of Uros. The inhabitants will show you how the islands are built and you will go for a short trip in one of their reed boats. Then you go to Taquile, a truly beautiful island where the locals live as they have been doing during centuries with their small scale agriculture and animals. You walk around on the island with the guide and after lunch it is time to go back to Puno where you will arrive late afternoon and get transferred to your hotel. Dinner at the great restaurant La Casona, their specialty is different types of fish served La Casona-style.

      

Day 8. Puno – Cuzco (B, L, D)

Transfer to the bus station for the tour that will take you to Cuzco. The bus trip over the altiplano is very beautiful and you will do several stops on the way to visit museums, Inca ruins and small villages. You will also make a stop for lunch. You arrive in the afternoon to Cuzco, the capital of the Inca Empire. We pick you up and transfer you to the hotel. Dinner at the restaurant MAP Café, offering Peruvian dishes with a modern touch.

      

Day 9. Cuzco  (B, L, D)

Free morning. Lunch at the restaurant Greens Organic, the first organic restaurant in Cuzco. In the afternoon a guided tour of Cuzco and the four famous Inca ruins that are located in the outskirts of Cuzco; the water temple Tambo Machay, the fortress Puca Pucara, the Oracle place Qenqo and the impressive fortress and temple of Sacsayhuamán. Three enormous stones, each one weigh 120 tons, form three perfect zig-zag walls and the view over Cuzco is wonderful. Then you do a walking tour of central Cuzco with visits to the Cathedral, Main Square and the Sun Temple of Korikancha. In the evening, dinner at the great restaurant Inka Grill.

      

Day 10. Sacred Valley  (B, L, D)

Today you will do a full day excursion to Urubamba, the Sacred Valley of the Incas. You visit the village of Pisac that was founded during colonial times and is located at the foot of some impressive Inca ruins. Visit the Pisac market on the Main Square where the Indians sell their products and handicrafts. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays are the busiest days, but the market is always open. After lunch, visit Ollantaytambo, the only Inca village that the Spaniards never conquered and explore the ruins located above the village. Overnight in the great hotel Sol y Luna in the Sacred Valley. Dinner in the great hotel restaurant Wayra. 

      

Day 11. Sacred Valley – Cooking Classes in El Huacatay (B, L, D)

In the morning transfer to the restaurant El Huacatay in the Sacred Valley for your cooking classes. The classes are led by Pio Vazquez de Velasco and you will prepare one typical starter, one main course, and one dessert. Of course you will finish by enjoying the delightful dishes for lunch. Back to your hotel Sol y Luna where you have dinner in the Wayra restaurant.

      

Day 12. Ollantaytambo –Machu Picchu – Cuzco (B, L, D)

It is time for the highlight of the tour, the forgotten city of the Incas and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World – Machu Picchu. Transfer to Ollantaytambo from where you will catch an early train to Aguas Calientes where you are met by your guide and taken to your hotel, the great Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo. Here you will have lunch and then you take the bus up to Machu Picchu for your guided tour (2 hours). After the tour you will have some free time to explore the ruins and take more photos. A popular alternative is to climb the mountain next to Machu Picchu; Huayna Picchu (2 hours). It is quite tough but if you reach the top you will have a spectacular view over Machu Picchu and the surroundings. Dinner at your hotel.

   

Day 13: Aguas Calientes – Cuzco (B, L, D)

Today you will have the opportunity to go back to Machu Picchu to enjoy the sunrise over Machu Picchu and spend time there without too many other tourists (entrance fee and bus tickets not included). Lunch in your hotel. In the afternoon you take the train back to Cuzco. You are picked up and transferred to your hotel. Dinner at the restaurant Incanto.

Day 14: Cuzco – Lima (B)

Transfer to the airport for the flight to Lima.
